Matthew Halsall’s Gondwana Records are set to release a new album from recent signee LA based spiritual jazz singer Dwight Trible. The collaboration between the two began last year when Trible was performing at the North Sea Jazz Festival and Halsall invited him to guest with him at the Jazz Cafe in London. The eight-song album titled Inspirations is produced by and features Matthew Halsall on trumpet, alongside members of The Gondwana Orchestra. Selecting some of their favourite songs the album includes reworkings of the Donny Hathaway and Leroy Hutson’s classic “Tryin’ Times,” as well as Nina Simone’s “Feeling Good” and Dorothy Ashby’s “Heaven and Hell”. Today we’re treating you to their wonderful interpretation of “What the World Needs Now Is Love”. Listen and enjoy below.
