Another brilliant discovery from Stamp The Wax, this time, with Malian outfit Terakaft, and their exceptionally uplifting track entitled “Itilla Ihene Dagh Aitma (To My Brothers)”.
The former Tinariwen band members, delve deep into the Tuareg sound and the loose collective led by Diara and Sanou blend a potent mix of deep Saharan rhythms, wailing chants, intense rock riffs and an uplifting attitude towards life.
The track is taken from Alone (Ténéré) the fifth album from the pioneers of African desert rock. It’s their most rock oriented offering to date and – at the same time – their most personal. With their homeland going through troubled times, the album was born out of a need to maintain sanity in times of broken dreams and lies. “I call on every brother who loves his nation”, sings Diara. Standing on the ruins of their peoples dreams they sing to their brothers and sisters about true friendship and tolerance.
“Itilla Ihene Dagh Aitma (To My Brothers)” is proof that there’s still nothing like the sound of Terakaft: a faultless melting pot of fierce, funky sounds and thrillingly out-there.
