There’s a lot of fantastic new music coming out of Brownswood Recordings at the moment. Singer/songwriter Daymé Arocena just released her stunning debut album and the genre-defying Owiny Sigoma Band have been peeling the layers off their electrifying new album over the past month. Now we have a collaboration between LV and Tigran and it’s an exemplary example of the quality music coming out from the label. As a forward thinking production team, LV has always thrived on working with new collaborators and environments. In the past, there’s been joint efforts with London poet Josh Idehen and journeys to South Africa for kwaito-infused productions with Johannesburg MCs.
Playing a special Maida Vale live session for Gilles Peterson earlier this year, LV performed alongside Armenian jazz pianist Tigran Hammasyan. Anyone who heard the Maida Vale session that laid the foundations for the album will know how exciting it was to hear delicate jazz musicality at play with UK-tinged dance rhythms. ‘Jump and Reach’ builds on that potential, with circling piano going toe to toe with rolling drums and stabs of bass. Get into it below.
