Releasing his debut EP Inside World earlier this year, London’s Alex Burey returns with a new 4-track EP entitled “Family Stone.” We’ve already heard the title track and “Come Over”, so we’re putting the spotlight on the two new songs titled “You Won’t Ever Dream” and “Mother”. The former is, yet again, more proof that Alex is creating deeply personal music with imagination and style. On“Mother ” his soft-natured vocals coupled with the quiet textures barely register on your speakers as the track wafts through the air and sweetly serenades any ears within earshot. Inspired by the work of Charles Stepney and the magic of intimacy that you find in the work of Terry Callier, Scott Walker & Devendra Banhart, Burey has created something refined and timeless which echoes the past while at the same time managing to surprise with its originality. Bringing the warmth of psychedelic soul together with the detail and instrumentation of 70s folk, ‘Family Stone’ weaves poignant tales of family life with Alex’s never-ending search for moments of euphoria amidst the barren fringes of suburban London. Burey has delivered a quietly confident second EP, give it a listen.
