I must admit I wasn’t expecting to love Tinashe’s new mixtape (out now) as much as I do. Because as much as I love new-wave R&B, I just haven’t been feeling her music. Ok, now that’s out the way let me just explain this a little more. I’m a big fan of Rochelle Jordan, King avriel and SZA, R&B artist who mix meaningful lyricism, distinctive vocals, lush harmonies with experimental productions. Tisashe, whose debut album had a few clever pop-crossover songs, but little very little else to keep my attention. We listened to her album a few times, but didn’t feel enough sonic freshness coming through the music. Thankfully it seems that she is expanding her sound as the seven tracks found on the mixtape are immediately more compelling than anything on the Aquarius album. I really love this mixtape and hope we are treated to more like it. Stream Amethyst below or download it below.
