Take a listen to the new EP ‘Mirage’ by DJ and label head honcho Applescal. Having unveiled the first single ‘The Veil’ earlier this year to a slew of praise, Applescal has dropped ‘Mirage’, a progressive bass-laced-jam that sees the Dutch producer explore layered beats, hypnotic trance-like rhythms awash with meditative vocal tones.
The release is also a collaboration between Applescal and Amsterdam-based graphic designer Hessel Stuut. Each of the singles will come with individual artwork themed around the concept of a mirage. You can sample more of Stuut’s work here: https://www.facebook.com/studiostuut.
In talking about the new EP, Applescal had this to say:
“The ‘Mirage’ EP is a little darker than the work I’ve put released in the past. I sampled world music and meditation music and then messed that up in Ableton. It’s a very different approach of making music – I’ve hardly used samples in my previous output but have realised that sometimes you have to change the way you make music to keep things interesting.”
