Miami’s Niko Javan has linked up with Dallas-based songstress Sudie on the spaced-out, bass-heavy instrumental “Affection”. The track was created by the two Red Bull graduates during Manchester’s recent Bonnaroo festival, also the two artist were recently among 20 other hand-picked musicians as a member of Red Bull Music Academy’s Bass Camp.
The instrumental track opens with reverb-soaked hand claps, bass and ambient synth chords before including Sudie’s sultry, smooth, modulated vocals with a flurry of double timed hi-hats and percussion, turning the release into an subtle, Flying Lotus-esque, bouquet of sounds.
Speaking about their instant musical chemistry, Sudie shares:
“I literally walked into the studio where he was working and asked if he wanted vocals. He said sure! We grabbed the mic, I recorded everything in about 10 minutes and bam! There it was.”
“Affection” is taken from Niko Javan’s Dream Boat EP, which is available now. Sudie’s self-titled EP will be released on August 26th via Black Milk’s Computer Ugly label.
