I first learned about the Madrid duo Deers a few months ago when they were featured on Andrew Jervis’ excellent Bandcamp Weekly show. But with the daily onslaught of new music coming out we let our mind wander and forgot about the amazing lo-fi, surf-rock sounds we heard that afternoon. That was until last night when they popped up on our radar again courtesy of an article from Pigeons And Planes which dropped on my Blink Feed (shit really works!). The duo comprising of Ana Garcia Perrote and Carlotta Cosials decided to start a band after a summer trip to the coast, when for no reason they brought two guitars with them, as the story goes, Carlotta didn’t know how to play even the A chord and Ana stole her uncle’s spanish guitar. The girls would play their guitars all day on the beach and in the empty hostel they were staying in, they enjoyed it so much and haven’t looked back since. They’ve released two cracking demo tracks that were recorded and mixed by Diego García, from Cairo Records, both songs were recorded on a random March afternoon in a rehearsal studio in their hometown of Madrid. With summer settling in, these two might just have the perfect soundtrack for those hot nights. Brilliant stuff!
