The Leftovers

Treat your taste buds to these mouthwatering leftovers!

Good music drops daily, and it’s easy to miss the best of it. That’s why at the end of the week, we sift through emails, blogs, and streaming services to pull out five gems worth your time and make sure the really, really good stuff doesn’t slip by unnoticed. This week: Ana Palindrome, Lousie van de Heuvel, Frances Chang and more. Dig in and enjoy.

World of Echoย recently welcomed Irish experimental art-pop trioย Ana Palindromeย into the fold. To mark the occasion, they’ve shared new single ‘A MAN A CURE’. The self-describedย “soft bop trio”ย consists of Niamh Dalton (vocals, fiddle), Ruairi de Bรบrca (synths, programming) and Sara Leslie (bass, vocals). Pieced together in bedrooms, wardrobes, and homemade vocal booths, the track is gloriously odd lunar pop, DIY in spirit and adventurous in every other way. Its lyrics gently poke fun at the idea that anyone is trulyย “self-made”,ย offering a playful first glimpse of the mysterious character the trio has invented:ย Ana Palindromeย herself. ‘A MAN A CURE’ is a dazzling, quirky slice of avant art-pop, smart, playful and impossible to ignore.

Sometimes Spotify’s algorithm actually leads to genuine music discovery, serving up a track I actually want to hear, and this is one of those times. The opening statement from new record label Open Universe finds Jon Tye and Bethany Ley, aka Ocean Moon and Silver Ley, floating between ambient pop, new age, and fourth world. In what the artists describe as “metaphysical pop”. The track that hooked me was ‘Seeds Of Wonder‘ with its intricate pulses and enchanted vocals forming a hypnotic combination that’s impossible to resist. While that track was the gateway, the rest of the album is just as rich, immersive, and rewarding. ‘Lotus Garden’, ‘Gathering Moss’, and Glowing Umber’ are the standouts for me. If you like your ambient flavours to mix fantasy synth and sacral medievalist electronics, silken harp glissandos, synth waves, and serene vocal tones, Prismatic Fields is for you.

Louise van den Heuvelย has quietly become one of the most exciting figures in Belgian music. A bassist and composer behindย Dishwasherย andย Sonic Hug, she now steps out with Meander,ย eight duo pieces pairing her with some of the country’s most compelling jazz, electronic, and improvising artists. First taste, ‘To Freeze What is Unfrozen‘ finds her alongsideย Bert Cools, the Antwerp guitarist and electronics wizard known forย Meropeย and his granvat projects. Their looping, hypnotic soundscapes set the tone beautifully. Across the album,ย Cools, Arne Nuyts, Benjamin Sauzereau, Rebecca Driesmans, Vic Khaddaj, Elisabeth Klink, Lucia Pirรจsย andย Stan Marisย each bring their own voice, moving through ambient, minimalism and experimental electronica with an easy, spellbinding touch. With community at its heart, London trio Herjia assembled Lima Limo Compilation Vol. 1, inviting their favourite artists and friends to contribute. The result is a celebration of connection, collaboration, and collective creativity. Featuring exclusive contributions from the trio, plus The Vernon Spring, Tawiah, Loa, Saoirseโ€‘Juno, and more, Lima Limo Compilation Vol. 1 captures the label’s warm, communityโ€‘minded spirit. All profits from the release go directly to The Sameer Project, an initiative that sources and distributes aid to displaced families across the Gaza Strip. From the first track to the last, this beautifully curated compilation is music for the soul. Plus, all proceeds go to a worthy cause, so what are you waiting for?

been thinking bout confession, the third album by Brooklyn-based musician and performerย Frances Chang, is a synth-tinged experimental pop excavation of the self and the vast unknown depths it contains. Largely written on a hundred-year-old baby grand piano and recorded between Chang’s home in Sunset Park, Brooklyn, and the Maspeth, Queens studio of her longtime collaboratorย Andrรฉa Schiavelliย (co-producer), the album situates the unbridled emotion of Chang’s DIY roots within a complex and poetic sonic landscape that interweaves orchestral arrangements with idiosyncratic electronic and analog interventions.
