Time slips through our fingers whether we fight it or not. On her arresting new single ‘TENTO’, São Paulo-born, Venice Beach-based songwriter Monique Maion meets that existential dread with an unhurried, deeply soulful shrug. Taken from her forthcoming full-length MAION (due November 13) and mixed in Los Angeles by legendary engineer Mario Caldato Jr., the cut pulls atmospheric Bristol-esque trip-hop vibes straight into the sunlit slipstream of Brazilian vocal jazz.
Everything hangs on touch. Dusty Rhodes chords drift over loose, unquantized rimshots and a deep-pocketed sub-bass line, framing Maion’s dual-layered Portuguese vocals with effortless warmth. Singing of dropped balls, lost hours, and hard-won patience, she pivots on a vital folk truth: past time never returns, but the world keeps spinning anyway. That balance feels earned. Having weathered severe epilepsy and near-death seizures, Maion treats songwriting as physical grounding, transmuting internal turmoil into pure forward motion.

Speaking about the track, Maion says:
TENTO is about how time is a spiral web, looking at the falls, the backstabbers, the stagnant PTSD, and a desire to break the inertia of victimhood. It carries a naive faith and a little taste of revenge. This song lives in that moment: the space between looking back and trying again.
Hypnotic, bruised, and quietly hopeful, ‘TENTO’Â offers rich medicine for restless minds. By turning vulnerability into pure groove, Maion delivers a restorative statement of endurance.
