Our latest guest playlist comes courtesy of Polish jazz outfit Omasta.
Formed in Kraków in 2024, Omasta first stepped into the spotlight with a J Dilla tribute performance, then quickly gained wider attention through festival appearances and club dates across Europe. They’ve played venues and events including the legendary Ronnie Scott’s, The Jazz Cafe, London Jazz Festival, and Gent Jazz Festival.
Grounded in jazz yet deeply influenced by hip-hop and street culture, the quintet has become one of Poland’s most exciting new jazz acts. The band has collaborated with artists including Marysia Osu, Tenderlonious, and Polish free jazz legend Leszek ŻądÅ‚o.
After releasing their debut album, Jazz Report from the Hood last year, the band is gearing up to release album number two, Hits Different, next Friday, once again with Astigmatic Records. The forthcoming album builds directly on the musical language Omasta developed on their first album, balancing the eclectic, smoky sound of Detroit and Los Angeles beats with instrumental hip-hop and 1970s fusion.
Their guest playlist offers insight into the band’s musical influences and inspirations. From Pharoah Sanders to J Dilla, with stops for Eddie Gale, Yin Yin, Marshall Allen, and plenty more, this playlist moves effortlessly across jazz, soul, psychedelia, and groove-laden sounds from every corner of the musical spectrum.
Hit play and enjoy their essential selections.
