The Leftovers

Treat your taste buds to these mouthwatering leftovers!

We spotlight as much greatness as we can, but a few gems inevitably slip past. That’s why The Leftovers exists: every Friday, we dish out five releases we couldn’t ignore in quick, small tasty bites. This week brings new finds from Enneads, Tamar Osborn, Emma Dayhuff, and more. Dig in and savour the finds.

New track from Yoruba-inspired jazz band Kevin Haynes Grupo Elegua. Su Beding Wedding Ya is a vibrant track that sets things up nicely for their forthcoming album, Inner Outer Alignment, due for release next month. Grupo Elegua creates and performs a heady fusion of contemporary jazz, drawing on influences ranging from Afro-Cuban and native Nigerian Yoruba folkloric bata drumming styles to Mandiga folk and praise songs, with a hard-bop modal concept and flowing kora lines. This one’s pretty special – listen below.

On August 28th, Enneads will release their self-titled debut album. The band self-describes with tongue firmly in cheek as a “Doom Jazz” trio consisting of Zach Layton (17-string electric bass), Phyllis Chen (piano), and Hamir Atwal(drums). Centred around Layton’s rare 17-string electric bass, amplified piano, and an expansive percussion setup, Enneads inhabits a sound world where acoustic resonance becomes the primary compositional material. Today we’re sharing ‘Eidos‘ and ‘Metanoia‘ from the album. If you’re into The Necks, Natural Information Society, or Oren Ambarchi, this one sits firmly in that hypnotic, slow‑unfurling continuum.

We love Tamar Osborn; she’s a unique voice in the world of jazz music. The renowned saxophonist, woodwind player, bandleader and composer stands at the heart of the UK’s forward‑thinking music movement. The multi-instrumentalist is gearing up to share her most ambitious and exploratory project to date. Centred on the concepts and rituals of improvisation, collaboration, and music as a tool for healing, Varier is a project drawn from two recording sessions completed in different cities — Berlin and London — with two different ensembles. The Varier: Berlin session is the first to be released (VarierLondon will follow in May 2027). Osborn teases the album with ‘Raw (Berlin)’, a wandering, sometimes frantic, sometimes slow‑burning atmospheric piece that drifts between urgency and introspection. This is pretty stunning; take a listen for yourself below.

Bassist and composer Emma Dayhuff follows her acclaimed 2025 album Innovations & Lineage with Mountains, a new collection inspired by the vast landscapes and rugged spirit of Montana. Released via Chicago-based Division 81, the album is another adventurous chapter in Dayhuff’s evolving musical vision, grounded in jazz tradition yet attuned to the expansive sound of today’s West Coast jazz scene. An exceptional ensemble featuring pianist Paul Cornish, trumpeter Corey Wilkes, drummer Jonathan Pinson, and longtime collaborator, saxophonist Isaiah Collier, joins Dayhuff. From the heavenly sounds of ‘Distance‘ to the winding grooves of ‘The River’, Dayhuff invites listeners into a sonic landscape of towering peaks, rushing rivers, windswept valleys, and personal transformation. Get a taste below – the album arrives September 4th.

We’re excited to share that visionary percussionist and composer Adam Rudolph is gearing up to release his new album, Invisible Threads. Following his new trio album Sunrise in May and Vibe Ride with his Hu Vibrational outfit late last year, Rudolph’s new record bridges cultures and traditions, ancient and future, in a startlingly original collaboration. Due out September 18th via Omni Sound, the mesmerising set features the percussionist in deep convergence with a group of venturesome musicians from Turkey, joined by longtime collaborators from Europe. Rudolph is joined on the album by the Istanbul-based musicians Ahmet “Haci” Tekbilek, master of the ney, the traditional Turkish flute; percussionist Okay Temiz; violinist Özlem Kaya; flautist Sıla Gerbag; and vocalist Sumru Ağıryürüyen, along with Italian guitarist Marco Cappelli and Danish bassist Jesper Egelund Pedersen. Listen to the lead track ‘Let Spin‘, then buy – you need this in your life.
