The Leftovers

Treat your taste buds to these mouthwatering leftovers!

We spotlight as much greatness as we can, but a few gems inevitably slip past. That’s why The Leftovers exists: every Friday, we dish out five releases we simply couldn’t ignore in quick, tasty snippets. This week brings new finds from Test Card, Plum, and more. Dig in and enjoy.

Wonderful news from Test Card: he has a new album on the way. 73 & Good Luck takes its title from an amateur radio sign-off code “73”, a farewell that hints at both endings and new beginnings. Test Card has a way of drawing you into his world of widescreen electronic soundscapes, where slowโ€‘unfolding textures, gentle cinematic ambience, downtempo rhythms and analogue synths quietly take over. Three tracks have been shared so far. Listen to ‘Telnet to Telex‘, ‘Bravo uniform station‘ and ‘Five and eight is the report‘. Test Card being Test Card, the artwork is – unsurprisingly – sublime. Anyway, what are you waiting for? Press play already! The album will soon be with us on August 7th via Norman Records.

DNGDNGDNG and Prisma met in 2016 backstage at the Fusion Festival near Berlin. This encounter marked the beginning of a lasting creative collaboration that continues to this day. Their first release together, Pacos, appeared on Dengue Dengue Dengue’s album Zenith & Nadir. Since then, they have collaborated on several remixes and a three-track EP released via Tratratrax in 2023. Listen to the thumping ‘Umbral’ from their forthcoming ‘Abisal’ EP below.

Looking for your next listening obsession? EDNA + BETAMAX have dropped their collaborative project, Gold Can’t Win, via the champagnedub. This isn’t your standard electronic affair as you would expect from this pairing. The experimental duo masterfully bends genres, blending rich analogue textures with modern, driving rhythms. It is an immersive, hypnotic journey from start to finish. ‘Times Up (Run)‘ is a frantic, high-energy tune and ‘Blow Back (Wait)’ is a heavy, atmospheric cut that showcases the duo’s incredible dynamic range. Tired of the same predictable sounds and want music that challenges your speakers? Blast this one out!

Chicago post-punk band Plum resurfaced earlier this month with ‘Asymmetric’, a dazzling return from the trio. Taken from their forthcoming second album titled ‘Bodies In Motion’, the band, consisting of Jeff Kelley (guitar, lead vocals), Heather Perry (bass, vocals), and new drummer Eric Ridder, expands their vocabulary through layered counterpoint, interlocking rhythms, and parts that answer and circle one another. ‘Asymmetric’ is a delicious first offering which has so much energy and groove that you can’t help but dance to it. Listen to the track below and keep a lookout for the new album!

Reverie is Ori Kaplan and Lihu Melamed’s first fullโ€‘length collaboration โ€” a cinematic, modal, soulโ€‘soaked drift with echoes of Mingus and Yusef Lateef, guided by Ori’s baritone sax and flutes. Melamed’s influence pulls from the spirit of 70s rock and psychedelia – The Doors, Woodstock, King Crimson. Although their work is less about nostalgia and more about continuity – musical language passed down and reshaped. A debut that feels expansive, livedโ€‘in and quietly assured.
