Kerrier Collective – Pray for Rain:live at Potager (TS Premiere)

‘Pray for Rain’ is the newest single from the Kerrier Collective, with vocals and saxophone by their regular collaborator Polly Meyrick.

Kerrier Collective is a project from Cornwall-based musicians Ben Tidy and Alfie Gidley.

Released on Colour and Pitch, ‘Pray For Rain’ is a moody, downtempo, jazz-influenced electronic track written during COVID. The duo explains, “It’s a song about the paradox of long winter lockdown days, how it was possible to feel so cosy but also so trapped at the same time. When the comfort becomes stifling, and you lose your sense of strength.”

Unusually for the time, all three artists were together in the same room when ‘Pray For Rain’ was written and recorded. “The song was born in the barn where Alfie lives in Cornwall”, says Ben. It was winter, and the woodburner was glowing calmly. Alfie was on the drums, and I had a couple of chords I was into. Polly reached for a notebook and by the end of the day we had a structure for the track.”

The single comes with an accompanying live video recorded at Potager Garden in Cornwall and beautifully shot by Jack Hayter. The video was made with funding from the internationally acclaimed production studio Kaleider Arts.

In the gorgeous Potager Garden, everything feels right, flowers sway slow and the air moves easily, a perfect quiet corner for the music to breathe and bloom.
