The Leftovers

Treat your taste buds to these mouthwatering leftovers!

Keeping up with the daily flood of music is impossible. We try to share everything, but gems slip through the cracks. The Leftovers fixes that (a little): every Friday, we dig through the emails, blogs and streaming services and share five essential releases in bite-sized pieces we couldn’t ignore. This week, Standing On The Corner, LOX, Shir Frum, and more. Dig in and savour the finds.

Tomo Katsurada and Misha Panfilov deliver a record steeped in deep, enveloping instrumental soundscapes and some cool vocal moments. The vocal cuts – ‘Cmybol Smybl‘, ‘Yoyo‘, ‘Mokuba‘ and ‘Hundreds Spirits‘ are, to my ears, the highlights. Across its ten tracks, Eternal Almost, consistently reaches the upper tier of psychedelic jazz, imaginative, free-flowing, and quietly dazzling. “Amid the weight of our current times, the pair hope this album brings listeners a sense of lightness, joy, and of course – a gently surreal journey from beginning to end”. A seriously impressive release that’s worth both your ears and your support.

What you get here is a kaleidoscope of psychedelic, funky, beat-driven, jazz‑soaked instrumentalism, and it’s well worth sinking into. Producer and DJ Myríad links up with guitarist, bandleader, and soundscape architect JJ Whitefield for a mellow 4-track EP. Crafted with intent: sharp, imaginative, and gleefully trippy. Try Idioms of Synergy first, and you’ll soon be convinced. It’s the kind of music that grooves, loosens shoulders and soothes the soul.

The genre-bending, shape-shifting Brooklyn crew Standing On The Corner is back with another midinbending transmission. True to form, ‘Gimme my gun’ is joyfully off its rocker, an absurd little gem that proves the collective is in its own universe. Press play and enjoy.

Jazz re:freshed are set to drop the debut studio album by visionary drummer, composer and bandleader LOX titled ‘The Eight Gates – inspired by resilience, self-discovery, and the relentless drive to surpass one’s limits. New single ‘Limit‘, written alongside acclaimed pianist and composer Laurie Milton, introduces audiences to the album’s powerful emotional depth. It represents a journey through resistance and breaking points, symbolising the fight against social and racial injustice.

Shame On Your Smile‘ is the first glimpse into This Is The Cake, Shir Frum‘s upcoming second album on Raw Tapes. A hushed, intimate love song written in a single morning and shaped together with close friends, it captures the warmth, vulnerability, and honesty at the heart of the album. Check it out, and stay tuned for more from This Is The Cake.
