Web Web cover German jazz fusion pioneers, Passport

Ataraxia arrives as a soft-focus entry point into WEB WEB‘s ‘Kover Kover’, and it says a lot without ever raising its voice. Originally tied to Passport and Klaus Doldinger, this version doesn’t try to recreate the past; it gently dissolves it and reshapes it into something more fluid, more inward.

The track leans into a hazy, almost weightless groove. Sax and flute lines drift in and out like passing thoughts, while the rhythm section keeps things grounded with a subtle, steady pulse. There’s a technicality here, sure, but it never feels showy. Instead, the band focuses on space, letting each phrase breathe and stretch.

What stands out is the balance. Moments of intricate interplay quietly give way to softer, melodic passages, echoing the title’s idea of a kind of calm within motion. Even when the arrangement thickens, it never loses that sense of ease.

Released on April 24th, the album ‘Kover Kover’ contains amazing jazz interpretations of songs by Nirvana, Grace Jones, Black Sabbath, Jimi Hendrix, Talking Heads, Grandbrothers, Dave Pike, Empire Of The Sun, Joe Jackson, Eurythmics, Kruder & Dorfmeister, as well as this wonderful tribute to Passport’s Klaus Doldinger.

As a first glimpse of the album, ‘Ataraxia’ feels intentional. Not a bold statement, but a slow invitation into WEB WEB’s eloquent re-imaginations.
