MAIKA‘s writing and performance possess a raw, timeless, and deeply human quality. Her voice draws you in from the very first listen, captivating you with its rich tones and heartfelt expression. The Cologne-based artist might be unfamiliar to some (she’s a new name to me). Since her debut in 2019, she has quietly refined her skills and steadily built a reputation for her releases.
With her latest endeavour, Holy Noon, MAIKA presents a powered-down composition that expands her sonic universe. Warm, layered, and grounded, the piece is built around intertwined guitar textures and spacious arrangements. Originally released in 2024 on her album of the same name, the track has been beautifully reimagined in collaboration with guitarist Bertram Burkert (Conic Rose).
Holy Noon unfolds patiently, never losing its focus. Layered guitars, a calm sweep of pedal steel, and understated synths create an elegant backdrop for MAIKA’s crystal-clear vocals. The arrangement stays simple but magnetic, with Burkert’s delicate guitar lines subtly framing the warmth and beauty of MAIKA’s tone.
