Treat your taste buds to these mouthwatering leftovers!
Trying to keep up with the daily deluge of music is like trying to drink from a firehose. While we do our best to share all the good music that comes our way, some gems inevitably slip through the cracks. That’s where The Leftovers features come in; each Friday, we serve up five tasty morsels that we couldn’t let slip away into easily digestible snippets. This week, we’re showcasing releases from Yalla Miku, Dishwasher, Snorkel and more. Lap up these delectable treats.
It’s been over two years since our last post about the Geneva-based collective Yalla Miku. With โAlemuyeโ, and ‘Maximum Self-Care’, they make a strong return. Not limiting themselves to one genre, they are a โ a folk outfit, a dance-party band, a gang of rockers, balladeers, and improvisors”. Crank up the volume and listen to the tracks below. Oh, and look out for their second album, 2, which is out November 7th via Bongo Joe.
Two and a half years after their debut made them jazz and groove leaders in the Benelux, Dishwasher is set to release their much-anticipated second album later this month. Unlike the spontaneous debut, Anemoia was crafted from separate ideas that Werend Van Den Bossche, Louise van den Heuvel, and Arno Grootaers later reconstructed in the rehearsal room. Early last month, we were absolutely blown away by the title track, and now they have shared the follow-up, ‘Phoenix’. Give both tracks a listen below.
Snorkel is well and truly on a roll! Having released the mind-blowing โOgotemmeliโ last month, the South London-based experimental collective has teased another track from their upcoming third full-length album, Past Still Present Tense. Continuing to experiment with dub, free improv, avant-funk, and post-Krautrock, ‘Sirene lies somewhere between all those sounds. You won’t want to miss this!
Returning with their first taste of new music in over four years is Ghent/Brussels-based trio Steiger, who continue to dazzle with ‘Mowglowski’s First Take’. The trio of Gilles Vandecaveye-Pinoy (keys), Kobe Boon (double bass), and Simon Raman (drums) push the boundaries of jazz with their new album, blending post-classical, electronica, improvisation, and minimalism. This artistic exploration is evident in singles like ‘Gauchoman’, ‘5XP’, and ‘Zonnetje schijnt, iedereen is zie’. Check out the brilliant new album below.
Sanguis is the project of Berlin-based producer Ludwig Wandinger, and ‘Wounding’ is his latest offering. Perfect for the autumn days awaiting us, this soothing tune is rich with dark ambient layers and solo piano improvisations that gently whisk away the listenerโs attention. You’ll want to get nice and cosy for this one.
