Trying to keep up with the daily deluge of music is like trying to drink from a firehose. While we do our best to share all the good music that comes our way, some gems inevitably slip through the cracks. That’s where The Leftovers features come in; each Friday, we serve up five tasty morsels that we couldn’t let slip away into easily digestible snippets. This week, we’re showcasing new music from KAU, Me and My Friends, Emergence Collective and more. Lap up these delectable treats.

So far, Belgian trio KAU has shared two mesmerising singles, ‘dive_deep’ and ‘4U’, which are taken from their forthcoming album, Unknown Waveforms. They recently dropped the latest single, ‘morph_303’. Named after one of the many secret patches hidden in band member Jan’s synths, the compact and clear-cut track bursts with energy and optimism. Check it out below and look out for Unknown Waveforms, which is out early next month.

With their album ‘Bring Summer’ on the way, Me and My Friends have released a new track titled ‘Tell Me’, following the bright and warm title track. “A celebration of authenticity, the inner child and the freedom to be yourself, it’s an invitation to dance as a raw, unfiltered expression of life”, is how the press release describes the project. We eagerly await their new album, but for now, enjoy the two tracks below.

If you haven’t heard the magical vibrations of the Sheffield-based revolving ensemble, Emergence Collective, it’s time you did! Blending elements of classical music, jazz, and folk, their upcoming album, ‘Swimming in the early hours’, showcases the collective’s continued evolution of a unique sound, illuminated by moments of serene softness and quietly hypnotic grooves. The title track is streaming below in all its 17 minutes and 58 seconds of glory!

Ola Szmidt’s latest track, ‘Touching Too Loud’, is perfect for the upcoming autumn days and nights, as it will warm you up good and proper. Balancing melancholy with hope, Szmidt’s vocal delivery is filled with emotion, capturing the weight of the lyrics while also hinting at the promise of healing and self-acceptance. ‘Touching Too Loud’ is a soundtrack for the soul.

The pairing of Madala Kunene and Sibusile Xaba is truly exceptional. The two artists shared the stunning and majestic ‘Izimpisi’ as the lead track from their upcoming album, ‘kwaNTU’. Their rich vocal harmonies float effortlessly above their lyrical instrumentation; together, they are a perfect match. Whack on the headphones, disconnect from the world, and relish the next six minutes of music.
