Treat your taste buds to these mouthwatering leftovers!
Trying to keep up with the daily deluge of music is like trying to drink from a firehose. While we do our best to share all the good music that comes our way, some gems inevitably slip through the cracks. That’s where The Leftovers features come in; each Friday, we serve up five tasty morsels that we couldn’t let slip away into easily digestible snippets. This week, we’re showcasing new music from Babo Moreno, Holly Palmer, Laura Jurd and more. Lap up these delectable treats.
Chicago-based violist/composer Whitney Johnson, cellist/composer Lia Kohl, and violinist/composer Macie Stewart recently announced a new trio project with the release of BODY SOUND [STONE PIECE] on cassette. The A-side track ‘Stone Piece I’ is streaming below. The release previews the trio’s performance at the inaugural Sound & Gravity Festival in Chicago, as well as a new album by the trio, set for release via International Anthem next year.
London-based artist Babo Moreno, also known as Fabio De Oliveira, is gearing up to drop his self-titled debut album. This vibrant and intensely personal record fuses Afro-Brazilian traditions with the cutting-edge soul of London’s jazz scene. With these four tracks, the album set to be released on September 26th is shaping up to be quite impressive! Get involved below.
We haven’t stopped listening to Holly Palmer’s mesmeric new track ever since it dropped in our inbox last week. Speaking about her upcoming album, Palmer says that it is “full of feelings Iโd previously not found a way to express”. Palmer’s light and airy vocals perfectly complement the track’s rich production. So, sit back, relax, and enjoy the music below!
The brilliant Peter Evans strikes again! Having wowed with his debut work on We Jazz Records last year, the trumpet wizard, improvisor, and composer has shared the equally stunning track ‘Hanks’. Taken from the upcoming album ‘Ars Ludicra’, it sees Evans reuniting with his group Being & Becoming. Featuring Evans on a range of trumpets, piano, and electronics, Joel Ross on vibraphone and synth, Nick Jozwiak on bass and synth, and Michael Shekwoaga Ode on drums, the album captures the band in peak form during a period of extensive touring and intense musical development. We’re excited to hear what the rest of the album sounds like. For now, though, wrap your ears around the new cut below!
Last month saw the release of new music from visionary jazz trumpeter and composer Laura Jurd. Brooding, cathartic, and stirring, ‘The Offering’ is the brilliant first appetiser to Jurd’s new album, Rites & Revelations, out on the 17th of October via New Soil. Get involved below.
