Rabbath Electric Orchestra – Twin City (TS Premiere)

‘Twin City’ marks a bold and beautiful presentation from Rabbath Electric Orchestra, the collaborative project of double bass virtuoso François Rabbath and his son Sylvain. It is taken from their upcoming album, Amall. This track is the result of six years of musical exploration, blending instruments with rich textures drawn from across the world.

François Rabbath is a legend in the world of the upright, deep-toned bass from the 1960s. He has not only collaborated with the likes of Edith Piaf, Charles Aznavour, and Paco Ibáñez, but he has also revolutionised double bass technique with his pioneering teaching methods. His son Sylvain, growing up amid this musical orbit, found his voice on keys and synths—eventually joining his father on global tours.

‘Twin City’ is a mesmerising introduction that builds on François’s signature deep bass tones. It weaves a composition with Middle Eastern classical music, subtle electronics, and improvisational jazz. Sylvain’s touch brings a modern cinematic feel, allowing the composition to stretch and breathe, giving space to each sound and silence.

A vital part of what makes it so evocative is its opulent composition. François Rabbath’s double bass is played with a mastery that turns the instrument into both a melodic lead and a storytelling tool. His son Sylvain’s electric piano, Rhodes, and synths add depth and atmosphere. Guitars bring a mix of mood and gear.

Over six years of travel and performance, the duo collected sounds, ideas, and memories, which were later distilled into the expressive soundscape of Amall. ‘Twin City’ exemplifies this journey. It isn’t just a song. Rather, it’s an interchange across generations, a cultural bridge, and a beautiful preview of what’s to come. It promises to be a wide entrance that imagines something entirely new.
