The Leftovers

Treat your taste buds to these mouthwatering leftovers!

ย Good music is dropping daily! So, we do what we can to give you a few recommendations in our ‘Leftovers’ feature of the best new tracks/releases we think you need to hear! We’ve whipped up these five tasty morsels into easily digestible snippets. This week, we’re showcasing new music from Rabbath Electric Orchestra, The Circling Sun, Mansur Brown, and more. Tuck in and enjoy.

ย Rabbath Electric Orchestra is the project of double bass legend Franรงois Rabbath and his son Sylvain. The album ‘Amall’ is their debut, simmering for six years in a pot of global musical flavours collected from their shared adventures, now perfectly distilled for your ears. On the dazzling opening track ‘Sevillana’, the duo are accompanied by bassist Victor Wooten and pianist Laurent de Wilde. Take a listen below and look out for the album, which lands on the 22nd of August.

ย With their Orbits album out next month, Aotearoa collective The Circling Sun has shared a brand new cut,ย ‘Mizu’, which follows up the shimmering lead singleย ‘Constellation’. You can stream the track below, where you’ll find a sun-soaked blend of Brazilian jazz through a sub-tropical South Pacific lens with nods to Jobim, Donald Byrd, and the Mizell Brothers, again featuring theย Love Affinity choir that anchors its joyful spirit. Dive in and enjoy!

ย Guitarist/songwriter/producer Mansur Brown is set to share his truest, most honest album to date, ‘Rihla,’ which means journey in Arabic. Embarking on this voyage, youโ€™re hearing an artist in full flow. This new chapter marks the introduction of Brown’s vocals for the first time, alongside heavier rock and electronic influences, while maintaining his melodic essence. ‘Rihla’s’ moods range from uplifting to ruminative as he moves across sci-fi soundscapes, with echoes of R&B and euphoric D&B.ย ‘Rihla’ was entirely written, performed and produced by Brown, and will be released on his label, AMAI. Check out the first single ‘Alone’ below.

ย Eva Novoa is on a roll. The rising pianist has only just blessed us with her Novoa/Kamaguchi/Cleaver Trio album. Now she reunites with bassist Drew Gress and drummer Devin Gray to bring us another blazing interplay banger in the form of Novoa / Gress / Grey Trio, Vol. 2! Ahead of the album release, the trio have shared ‘Springworlds’, the first wonderful and unique single. Take a listen now.

Ouzo Bazooka returns with ‘Kapaim’, a hypnotic blend of Middle Eastern psychedelia, surf rock, funk, and cosmic instrumental explorations. The mostly instrumental LP is their most personal and immersive yet. Take a listen now.
