The Leftovers

Treat your taste buds to these mouthwatering leftovers!

Weโ€™ve got five fantastic new releases that weโ€™re eager to share with you! Unfortunately, we havenโ€™t had the opportunity to write a detailed article about them yet. So, here they are in a more digestible size through our โ€œLeftoversโ€ feature. This week, new music from Amanda Whiting, Kaidi Tatham, Robohands and more. Go ahead and savour these five delicious delights.

SHIRAN and Bakal’s forthcoming album, Electro Baghdad, blends traditional Iraqi melodies with modern electronic beats. The record features Middle Eastern instruments like the qanun, ney flute, and Dabke-like percussion, seamlessly merging history with contemporary sounds. The lead track is their transformation of the traditional Iraqi song โ€œAh Ya Layla Yumma,โ€ turning it into a rousing โ€œElectro Haflaโ€ (Arabic party) anthem.

With his latest release, ‘Miles Away’, Kaidi Tatham reaffirms his position as a luminary in both the Broken Beat and UK jazz scenes. On his sixth full-length offering, Tatham’s ability to blend genres seamlessly is on full display, showcasing his mastery of instrumentation and composition. Tatham, as always, handles all instrumentation himself, and his meticulous craftsmanship shines brightly throughout the album. While the album leans heavily on instrumental exploration, the occasional vocal moments like the title track, ‘Ku Deh’ and ‘Wave’ featuring rapper Uhmeer add a human touch. With every album, King Kaidi comfortably reigns from his throne.

First Word Records dropped an incredible collaborative single by jazz harpist Amanda Whiting and national treasure Alice Russell. “What Is It We Need?” is the epic track in question, and it’s from Amanda’s upcoming EP, “Can You See Me Now?” set to be unveiled next month. Catch Amandaโ€™s headlining act at the iconic Ronnie Scottโ€™s in London on June 19th, if you happen to be around. Tickets HERE.

Robohands’ musical voice is inexplicably soothing and warming on this beautiful two-track release via Bastard Jazz Recordings. Robohands is doing what he does best – making exquisite music. Pay attention; this is exceptional.

So far, Hector Plimmer has shared two mesmerising tracks, ‘Reflections’ and ‘Grow’, from his forthcoming Infinity Mirrors album. Last month, we saw the release of ‘New Knew’, a track featuring Andrew Ashong’s heart-melting tones. Plimmer has offered another gem, and we eagerly await hearing the rest of the album next month.
