Don Glori’s forthcoming album, ‘Paper Can’t Wrap Fire’,  marks a confident evolution in his sound. Across eight tracks Glori showcases a blend of jazz, R&B, and funk that is both refreshing yet still deeply rooted in his artistic identity. This third release is a delightful departure from his earlier jazz-centric work, yet it retains a melodic essence that will resonate with long-time fans.

The album finds Glori taking influence from artists including Azymuth, SAULT, Jordan Rakei and Lynda Dawn. He also draws inspiration from London musical beacons such as NTS and Total Refreshment Centre.

The album’s title is an old Chinese proverb, roughly translated as ‘you can’t deny the truth’. This underlying thread is woven between the songs. “A lot of them are in some way about truth-seeking, observations and the masks you put on to deal with life (hence the cover art)”, Glori explains.

Recorded over two sweltering days at Rolling Stock Studios in Collingwood, Naarm, the lineup features Don’s friends and family. The backbone team includes Tim Cox, Al Kennedy, Joel Trigg, Robyn Cummins, and Lachlan Thompson, all former members of Don’s touring band. Vocal talents include ML Hall, Ruby Dargaville, Isadora Lauritz, and Bianca Kyriacou. The album also showcases trumpeter Audrey Powne, saxophonist Joshua Moshe, and Alcides Neto, who adds a touch of Brazilian flair.
