The Leftovers

Treat your taste buds to these mouthwatering leftovers!

Every Friday, we bring you “The Leftovers.” While we haven’t quite wrangled our thoughts into a full article yet, fear not—we’ve got you covered. We’ve whipped up these five tasty treats into easily digestible snippets. This week, we’re showcasing new music from ESKA, Tropos, Azmari and more… Tuck in and savour the delightful tidbits.

Matthew Herbert and producer, drummer and vocalist Momoko Gill announce the release of their new album Clay via Strut with lead single Babystar. A soulful, elastic collaboration, the release treads nimbly between the dancefloor and the more introspective moods of the early hours, both reminiscent of Herbert’s iconic albums while taking off in a compelling new direction. Agile and open-hearted, Babystar is a thrilling, tripped-out track from two of the UK’s most forward-thinking artists.

A whole decade has passed since London-born songstress ESKA released her Mercury Prize-nominated debut in 2015. The wait is over with The Ordinary Life Of A Magic Woman, a brilliantly imaginative electronic, alternative and pop album exploring motherhood and artistry. Bold and dynamic, ESKA is on a mission to captivate your ears.

Brooklyn-based composer-improviser collective Tropos give a glimpse into their upcoming album, Switches, with two new tracks. After a year of crafting, Tropos, guided by mentor Darius Jones, tested their ideas on a DIY tour of the East Coast, Canada, and the Midwest. The album reportedly “captures the sparks” of four unique voices, blending individual visions with collective intuition. Brace your ears for a treat: ‘The Best Donuts in Pennsylvania’ and ‘Headline’, are two tracks from the album out and ready for streaming.

Our longtime favourite, the incredibly talented Belgian outfit Azmari, unveils their upcoming EP, In Oculis. The EP showcases the band’s reinvention with a minimalistic style, blending powerful grooves, cinematic jazz, floating melodies, and entrancing soundscapes. Recorded during international residencies, it’s an eclectic and vibrant mix. The lead single, ‘Disassembling the Matrix’, is a powerful 9/4 march born from an endless arpeggiator loop in a jam session, showcasing the magic of spontaneity. It’s all happening below!

The eight-strong Nādt Orchestra are gearing up to release their debut album, ‘Dualism’. The second track lifted from the LP, ‘Elephant,’ shifts from spiritual tones to a rhythmic playfulness akin to the neo-Afrobeat styles of Ezra Collective and Nomade Orquestra. Inspired by the Indian parable “The Blind Men and the Elephant,” this piece shows how personal perception shapes or distorts reality. Take a listen now.
