Michael Sarian‘s latest single, ‘Straight Trash’, is a tripped-out preview of his upcoming album ‘ESQUINA‘ set to drop on April 25th through Greenleaf Music.
Following his intriguing cover of Portishead’s ‘Glory Box’, Sarian dives even deeper into the avant-garde with this track. Drawing from his diverse background—born in Toronto, raised in Buenos Aires, and now making waves in NYC—Sarian crafts a sound that is as eclectic as it is engaging.

The trumpet, Sarian’s primary instrument, takes centre stage, but not in a conventional manner. Instead, it’s processed through layers of effects that evoke the pioneering spirit of Jon Hassell. The trumpet’s voice is ethereal and haunting, weaving in and out of the electronic textures that underpin the track.
The rhythmic drive is equally compelling, with galloping beats and deep bass grooves that evoke the energy of classic jazz fusion records like Miles Davis’s ‘Agharta’ and ‘On the Corner’.
Sarian shares, “Straight Trash is the first composition I crafted for Esquina, a piece built around graphic scores and flexible structures that encourage improvisation and collective expression. Divided into four movements, the piece invites the musicians to guide the direction in real time, creating an organic and unpredictable flow. The inspiration came from Miles Davis’s On the Corner, an album that blurred genre lines and defied musical norms—something I wanted to channel in this composition.”
