The Leftovers

Treat your taste buds to these mouthwatering leftovers!

Welcome to our weekly  feature, “The Leftovers.” While we haven’t quite wrangled our thoughts into a full article yet, fear notโ€”we’ve got you covered. We’ve whipped up these five tasty morsels into easily digestible snippets. This week, we’re showcasing new music from Kayatibu, Lea Maria Fries, Tamir Barzilay and more.. So go ahead, tuck into this deliciously yummy selection.

In a vibrant fusion of ancient tradition and contemporary flair, ‘Nai Basa Masheri’ by Kayatibu is the first glimpse into an intriguing cultural collaboration. Brazilian musician and producer Luiz Gabriel Lopes, also known as LUIZGA, collaborates with young Huni Kuin community artists for a musical journey that bridges the gap between indigenous practices and modern musical expression. ‘Nai Basa Masheri’ is a stunning piece of music, and we’re all set to dive into their album project, NI HUI – Voices of the Forest, which lands on the 9th of May through Da Lata Music.

Lea Maria Fries makes a striking entrance with her debut album, ‘Cleo’, a bold exploration of identity and self-discovery that deftly weaves elements of jazz, contemporary sounds, and experimental music. A gorgeous coming-of-age record, โ€˜Cleoโ€™ tells the story of a young woman’s journey from the serene Alps to the vibrant streets of Berlin and Paris โ€”full of introspection, freedom, and transformation. Trained in Lucerne, mentored at Montreux by Quincy Jones, and sharpened on the Berlin sceneโ€”Lea emerges with confidence, maturity, and a sound entirely her own. Serenade your ears below.

If you hook up with Colorfield Records you know your latest creation won’t follow a well-trodden path. Tamir Barzilayโ€™s new offering is akin to an artistic blindfold walkโ€”an exploration of sound that is both exhilarating and disorienting. His forthcoming album Phosphene Journal began as an empty canvas, a space where he let go of preconceived notions and embraced the unknown. Barzilay, traditionally known for his talents on the drumset and guitar, takes a bold leap into uncharted musical waters, experimenting with foreign instruments. So, grab your headphones and wander through the lead track ‘Fika’. It’s a journey worth taking.

Co-led by pianist Nina Gat and drummer Ananda Brandรฃo, Ninanda fuses modern jazz and soft folk through magical compositions, showcasing powerful rhythms and dreamy vocals over rich, intricate harmonies. Discover Ocean Floor, the first single from their coming album A Place Where, set for release on 23rd May.

Hermon Mehari teams up with Tony Tixier for a great trumpet / Fender Rhodes duet album. Produced in pure analog fashion, SOUL SONG offers four rare covers (Stanley Cowell, George Duke, Jo Chambers, Marius Cultler) and four original compositions. THIS IS OUR FANTASY is the first single for this album to be released on 25th April.
