Yippee! After a nine-year hiatus, Tortoise has re-emerged from the shadows with ‘Oganesson’, a track that feels like a sonic celebration of their legacy and a bold statement of intent. The name itself, referencing a synthetic element on the periodic table, hints at the band’s penchant for the experimental—an apt metaphor for their music, which defies lazy categorisation and pushes the boundaries of sound.

The composition is dynamic, shifting seamlessly between moments of serene introspection and exhilarating crescendos. One could argue that Tortoise has mastered the art of tension and release, and “Oganesson” is no exception. The interplay between the instruments is a highlight, with the bass and drums locking into a groove and layered guitars and synths weave in and out like a conversation between old friends.

Tortoise is hailed as one of the most impactful music groups in the past 40 years, leaving a lasting mark on the modern music landscape. The legendary Chicago-based quintet consist of Jeff Parker, Dan Bitney, Douglas McCombs, John Herndon, and John McEntire.

Tune into ‘Oganesson’ below and start buzzing with excitement for a a larger body of work that International Anthem & Nonesuch Records will be dropping soon!
