The Leftovers

Treat your taste buds to these mouthwatering leftovers!

Every Friday, we bring you “The Leftovers.” While we haven’t quite wrangled our thoughts into a full article yet, fear notโ€”we’ve got you covered. We’ve whipped up these five tasty morsels into easily digestible snippets. This week, we’re showcasing new music from LE SON, Alon Aboutboul, Nadeem Din-Gabisi, Salami Rose Joe Louis, and Zeitgeist Freedom Energy Exchange. So go ahead, dive in and savour the delightful tidbits.

Itโ€™s been quiet on the LE SON front lately, but now they are back with a new track, โ€˜Five Times’. Highlighting Liam Fergus’ skill in balancing intricate melodies with a meditative style, complemented by the enchanting vocals of Emily Ady throughout. As always, LE SON navigates complexity and accessibility with ease. When you are done with this track, listen to this one. It’s a keeper.

‘Potion of Love’, the new single by Alon Aboutboul and produced by Rejoicer, offers a mysterious and familiar dreamscape. Alon weaves words into the music, each a shimmering stitch revealing secrets. Amir Breslerโ€™s drums set the tone, opening to the sea’s mysteries. KerenDunโ€™s ethereal voice adds depth, while Nitai Hershkovits contributes delicate piano before the final chorus concludes the journey.

You’ve got to give this a listen! It’s groovy, fun, and uplifting, with a wonderfully eloquent message woven through it. Award-winning poet and filmmaker Nadeem Din-Gabisi of Steamdown Collective follows a rich lineage of rebel music like Fela Kuti and Bob Marley, blending serious themes with irresistible, danceable rhythms. Nadeem has a distinctive perspective and a lot on his mindโ€”you’d be wise to tune in.

Genre traveller, multi-instrumentalist and producer Lindsay Olsen, aka Salami Rose Joe Louis, will soon return with a new album, Lorings. Billed as wonderfully raw and heartfelt, the LP was created almost entirely on her trusty Roland MV8800 workstation. For a few tracks, SRJL brought in a few talented friends to join the fun: guitarist/producer Flanafi (her partner on the 2024 collaborative album ‘Sarah’), Omari Jazz, Luke Titus and Sergio Machado Plim. Two tracks are available now.

Melbourne-born, Berlin-based drummer & producer Ziggy Zeitgeist, Zeitgeist Freedom Energy Exchange, will release a new album on 18th April via their own Energy Exchange Records label. Harnessing the raw power of their signature “hi-tech jazz” sound (i.e., jazz designed to ignite the club), ‘Inspire / Radicalise’, this new offering sees ZFEX wrestling with questions of introspection, questioning the motivations that drive artists to either pursue or abandon a project. You can enjoy two tracks streaming from the album below.
