We’re buzzing with excitement about some fantastic new releases! We haven’t had time to pen a full-blown article, but we’ve packaged them into easily digestible snippets in our “Leftovers” feature. This week, we’re showcasing new music from Nadav Schneerson, Holy Tounge, Immy Owusu, Inês Loubet and Laura Misch. Dive in and enjoy the five tidbits we’ve dished out!
Drummer and composer Nadav Schneerson first caught our attention in 2019 with his ever-changing Yadasofi ensemble. Zooming to the present, Schneerson is poised to bless the world with his debut album, ‘Sheva,’ set to drop next month. A labour of love, the upcoming album was recorded in just two days at Fish Factory Studios in 2022. It’s a journey through compositions Schneerson began penning as early as 17. Each piece was captured in live takes, often with the first or second attempt making the final cut. The lead track from the album Juju Man featuring Afronaut Zu is streaming below. Every element is perfection, from the dynamic drumming and driving modal bass line to Zu’s fiery vocals. Get your groove on with Juju Man, and mark your calendars for the album release on April 11th. Immy Owusu’s new track “Curly Hair” embodies the rebellious spirit of being the ‘odd neighbor’ in a quiet Australian suburb. It expresses the frustration of being misunderstood, addressing years of judgment from nosy neighbours influenced by sensationalised media portrayals of African youth.
New track from London-based artist Inês Loubet. ‘Quatro de Dezembro’ blends the rhythmic mastery of Bahian percussionist Tiago Nunes and ijexá andmaculelê rhythms with contemporary basslines, creating a rich and dynamic sonic landscape. Give the track a listen now – you won’t regret it!
Turning lead into gold might be a myth, but Laura Misch transforms loss into love in her new track “Alchemy.” Together with harpist Marysia Osu and pianist Tim Gardner, their harmonies intertwine like old friends reminiscing, and each note carries the warmth of a fireside chat.
