We’re back with The Leftovers feature serving up a smorgasbord of new releases in a bite-sized, no-frills format. This week, electro-acoustic chamber music from the talented trio of Uhlmann Johnson Wilkes. Alabaster DePlume steps back into the spotlight with his bold new album, improv supergroup Emergence Collective return with a expansive new track. Plus, Brussels-based Ciao Kennedy mark the beginning of a new chapter, not only musically โ a very delicate, but heavy sound. Eilis Frawley drops the final single Hallucinations, from her forthcoming debut LP Fall Forward. Enjoy.
Last week, International Anthem announced Uhlmann Johnson Wilkes, the debut album out 14th March from the Los Angeles trio of guitarist Gregory Uhlmann, saxophonist Josh Johnson, and bassist Sam Wilkes. Through 11 instrumental tracks, Uhlmann, Johnson, and Wilkes delve into a lyrical, jazz-inspired journey in progressive electro-acoustic chamber music.
Alabaster DePlume, the renowned London-based saxophonist, singer, songwriter, activist, orator, and poet-philosopher, unveils “A Blade Because A Blade Is Whole,” a bold new album releasing on March 7 via International Anthem. Featuring eleven tracks, it emphasises agency, survival, and confronting life’s pains instead of escaping them.
Chapel, Emergence Collective’s latest recorded music since 2023โs Fly Tower, was captured at the Samuel Worth Chapel, a beautiful and intimate venue set in the heart of Sheffield General Cemetery. With influences including Steve Reich, Brian Eno, Max Richter and Pharoah Sanders, Chapel sees the group refine and develop their sound, creating ambient textures that blend with the atmosphere of the venue. Following the release of EPโs โKeldercaveโ (2021) and the โthe problem isโ (2022), as well as being featured on the compilation Lefto presents Jazz Cats Vol. 3’in spring of 2024, Brussels-based Ciao Kennedy reappear with new single โNothingโ. Marking the beginning of a new chapter, not only musically โ a very delicate, but heavy sound โ but also through their partnership with the Belgian label Sdban Ultra for their debut album โSolariumโ, expected for release in March.
