We’re ecstatic to share our first guest playlist of the year, marvellously curated by the one and only Waldo’s Gift! Alun Elliot Williams, Harry Stoneham, and James Vine, the trio of innovative musicians from Bristol, have been venturing into new sonic realms while crafting their own unique musical dialect.
While the trio may be linked to the UK jazz explosion, thanks to their improvisational flair, their full-length album delivers hints of post-rock, prog-metal, and the more intense vibes of Squarepusher or Aphex Twin.
With a knack for improvisation, the trio’s compositions brilliantly balance spontaneity and meticulous precision. This Friday, the band will release their debut album, Malcoms Law, an intoxicating and beguiling record bursting at the seams with experimentation and energy. We’re over the moon that the trio took a moment to craft this fantastic playlist, giving us a glimpse into their inspirations.
These are all classic Waldi tunes that have inspired us since the beginning of the band. They all cover different shades of Waldo’s. Me yesterday by Fly Lo has informed how we approach texture, the same with Teebs. Trying to achieve these electronic soundscapes in the context of a live trio has been an enduring goal for us. We all bonded over our love of nu-metal. And we wanted this album to have some of that raw energy. Prison Song captures this perfectly.
