The Leftovers

Treat your taste buds to these mouthwatering leftovers!

Friday has finally arrived, and the weekend is so close you can almost taste it! Todayโ€™s Leftovers serve up a delightful, bite-sized roundup of new releases for your enjoyment. This week, SAULT, Surya Botofasina, Prepared, Unionen and Nikos Ziarkas. Tuck in and enjoy.

As per usual SAULT style, the enigmatic group has officially unveiled ‘Acts of Faith’, their surprise album from earlier this year. Last July, the collective released ‘Acts of Faith as a 32-minute .wav file. Bask in the album below, and if you’re itching to grab the vinyl, click hereโ€”better hurry, they’re vanishing fast!

In a twist of fate, we somehow missed keyboardist and vocalist Surya Botofasina’s mind-melting release last year, but we’re making up for lost time by sharing it today. Revisiting the sacred grounds of his spiritual and musical roots, Botofasina offers an uplifting meditation on the works and wisdom of his mentor, Swamini Turiyasangitananda, the legendary Alice Coltrane. Light up the incense sticks and let Botofasina’s music work its magic.

Consider yourself introduced to Prepared and their hypnotic single Modul Eins I & II, which dropped late last year. Consisting of Chris Gall on prepared piano, Florian Riedl on bass clarinet and Christoph Holzhauser on drums. The Munich-based acoustic trio, full of free-spirited vibes, instinctively sparks dance impulses and guides listeners into a trance-like sonic space. We’re excited to hear the rest of the album, as these two tracks are pretty special!

Top-tier jazz from the newly formed quartet Unionen. Taking its name fromย the United Kingdoms of Sweden and Norway (under a common monarchย 1814 – 1905), Unionen brings together Stรฅle Stรธrlokkenย (Supersilent),ย Per “Texas” Johansson,ย Petter Eldhย (Koma Saxo) andย Gard Nilssen (Supersonic Orchestra). The album consists of eight original pieces, each defying classification and ranging from misty introspection to full-on rock-out hard jazz. As expected, We Jazz Records have released another gem – just press play below and see for yourself!

If the name Nikos Ziarkas feels familiar, it’s because Ziarkas co-founded site favourite Valia Calda. Unveiling his solo talents, he recently dropped an intriguing double single, ‘Wounds Of Color / Run Run Stop No’. Each of these tracks explores the limitless possibilities of the guitar, blending jazz-rock, experimental textures, and captivating synth layers. Together, they mark a significant turning point in Ziarkas’ artistic journey, showcasing his creative exploration. Press play above and bask in the expressive and thrilling sounds of Nikos Ziarkas!
