The Leftovers

Treat your taste buds to these mouthwatering leftovers!

Friday has rolled around again, and what better way to end the week than with some scrumptious musical leftovers? Weโ€™ve got five releases to share, served up in bite-sized chunks for your enjoyment. This week, [ K S R ] and Konny Kon team up for a soulful collaboration. Kate Campbell Strauss and Emily Mikesell will charm your socks off with enchanting alt-jazz. London-based duo Moonfish unveil their debut EP. There’s one from the vaults courtesy of  The Woodleigh Research Facility, and pianist Dave Mackay delves into electronic music. Tuck in and enjoy.

We’re excited about this collaborative project between [ K S R ] and Konny Kon (Children of Zeus). Taking you to the peaks of soulful harmony, hit play for six minutes of pure bliss. Packed into these two tracks is a blend of rich vocals and smooth production that promise to elevate your spirits and soothe your soul. You’re in for a treat!

We somehow neglected to share the first glimpses from Kate Campbell Strauss and Emily Mikesell’s upcoming album. Oops! Today, we’re putting that right, so hit play and let their gorgeous and enchanting alt-jazz charm your socks off. Pushing the limits of jazz, the duo dabbles in avant-pop, classical, and alternative genres. “WWYD” and “Cloud Castles” are delightful morsels to savour while you patiently await the album.

There’s an earnest warmth and a sense of security in listening to Moonfish, the London-based duo of Maria Chiara Argirรฒ and Riccardo Chiaberta. Since 2020, they’ve slowly released music and finally dropped their debut EP. With elegant piano strokes, pulsating electronics, groovy drum beats, and an evocative brass backdrop, this project will stir your soul.

It’s as obvious as a squirrel’s obsession with acorns that we’re big fans of pretty much everything the London label Byrd Out releases. Yet, the label has outdone itself by unveiling some hitherto unheard tunes from The Woodleigh Research Facility. Nina Walsh and the late Andrew Weatherall’s project gift us the EP “Vous Du Music,” a four-track offering of pulsing, chugging, acid-tinged electronica recorded between 2016 and 2017. Byrd Out has once again proven that they are the connoisseurs of curating irresistible sounds, and “Vous Du Music” is a testament to the enduring legacy of The Woodleigh Research Facility.

Everyone should be talking about Dave Mackay’s new album. Seriously, it’s that good, even if the world has yet to catch on. “The Looking Chamber” opens a new artistic chapter for pianist Mackay, marking his first dive into purely electronic music. Created in the wake of a global lockdown, this album captures a passionate quest for serenity amidst turmoil and a pursuit of genuine humanity in an age dominated by digital connections. Dive into a fantastic 34-minute adventure by first checking out Josh Johnson’s guest spots on “Trust Goddess” and “Exit Strategies,” then see where the music takes you from there.
