From Maalem Houssam Guinia comes this simply beautiful piece of work. In the quiet, moonlit hours in a house nestled in Casablanca, the young and talented Gnawa masters created his new solo album, aptly named “Dead of Night.” Armed with little more than a Tascam field recorder and a pair of microphones, Guinia captured the essence of his spirited creativity and the rich cultural echoes of the Gnawa tradition. Not to be missed.
Saxophonist, poet, and songwriter Alabaster DePlume masterfully blends the power of collaboration and space’s significance in three emotionally stirring tracks. The EP, titled Cremisan: Prologue To A Blade, is streaming below.
Trumpeter, multi-instrumentalist, and composer Jonathan Enser wowed us with his debut MATTERS UNKNOWN album in 2022. Now, he’s back to excite us once more with the follow-up. Teaming up with Cuban percussionist and vocalist Flavio Correa, the lead track “Race Against The Sun” is a soul-stirring journey. This tune combines trance-inducing Afro-Cuban rhythms, expansive synths, and a warm dialogue between horns and human voice.
In the next few weeks, we’re rolling out a premiere of a track from FUWAH’s new album, but we’ve decided to give you a sneak peek with the lead track first. Helmed by Maddalena Ghezzi, their second album, CARE, is packed with mesmerising grooves and delightful saxophone and vocal harmonies. It thoughtfully explores the theme of care.
Glasgow’s Cahill//Costello (Kevin Daniel Cahill on guitar, effects and tape loops and Graham Costello on drums) made a splash with their first album, with Future Music calling itย โHighly accomplished and immersiveโย and Clash Mag saying, “Immersive, meditative musicโฆthe sounds of nature are evoked with eloquent percussion, while tape loops achieve a hypnotic intensity.โ Now, they follow up their debut with the single โSunbeat,โ which brings to mind a wash of warm colours, serving as its first single. This track sets us up nicely for their second record, which is out next week via Gearbox Records.
