Ellen Reid’s eclectic career, from avant-pop to orchestral works, showcases the beauty of her versatility. Her latest album, Big Majestic, features ambient synths, strings, and contributions from the Kronos Quartet, Shabaka Hutchings, and Lisel, capturing the essence of global parks.
After a long hiatus, Steve Marreyt, aka Edgar Wappenhalter, finally broke the silence by releasing the new single “Hallusineren / Altijd weer zand”. Featuring guest vocals from Annelies Monseré (Luster), a longtime collaborator of Marreyt. Plucked straight from his upcoming album IJsschots Veenlaag Mist, this folk song is soaked in reverb. The album pays homage to the brilliance of Dutch poet Sonja Prins (1912-2009).
Peni Candra Rini has dropped “Wani,” an album so loud, playful, and explosively rambunctious that your ears might throw a party in your head. With her virtuosic, quirky, and downright surprising vocal flair, Rini takes ancient Javanese music, gives it a modern twist, and then kicks it into high gear. Edrix Puzzle, the adventurous psychedelic jazz outfit, unveiled its new album, “Lotus Blossom,” via Battagon Records. The album’s unique sound blends acoustic instruments with experimental electronics, drawing inspiration from Zappa’s Hot Rats, Sun Ra, Mahavishnu Orchestra, and electric-era Herbie Hancock. The FLEE label’s “Athos: Echoes From The Holy Mountain” compiles field recordings of monks’ liturgical acapella from Mount Athos, an Eastern Orthodox monastic hub for over two millennia. Featuring recordings from the 2020s and 1960s, the compilation also features modern interpretations by artists such as Holy Tongue, Jimi Tenor, Jay Glass Dubs, and more.
