The Leftovers

Treat your taste buds to these mouthwatering leftovers!

Guess who’s back? Yep, itโ€™s The Leftovers! Our delightfully irregular weekly feature is where we skim the ocean of new music releases and serve you five bite-sized gems. From Alica’s bossa nova bliss to Flock’s genre-hopping grooves, here are five releases you need to listen to this weekโ€ฆ

I absolutely adore Aliciaโ€™s voice. It’s like caramel for the ears, melting over every syllable with a richness that leaves a lasting impression. Listen to her latest single, ‘Matar Saudade,’ below. The good news is there’s a full-length album on the way. Alicia’s is about to drop a treasure trove of sonic brilliance, ready to serenade our ears.

If you’re on the hunt for head-nodding beats wrapped in jazz fusion goodness, Budapest trio Jazzbois has you covered. They’re back with their fourth LP, Still Blunted, where they dive back into their beat-tape origins. Sample the album’s flavour below.

A new release from Hania Rani equals minutes’ worth of pure musical bliss. So here’s her latest single, ‘It Comes in Waves’. This track, freshly plucked from Rani’s upcoming album ‘Nostalgia’, was recorded live with String Ensemble at the Ghosts album launch in Studio 1 of Polish Radio, Warsaw, and dazzled audiences again in concert at the Roundhouse in London (we were there) last year.

For those who prefer their jazz on a perpetual joyride, Flocks’ latest track will feel like Christmas came early! Bex Burch, Sarathy Korwar, Tamar Osborn, Danalogue and Al MacSween return for their second album as Flock. “Capillary Waves” serves up an irresistible appetiser, a thrilling overture that wields jazz like a springboard, launching this adventurous quintet into limitless sonic territory. This track doesnโ€™t just dip its toes into an array of genres; it plunges in headfirst like a bold musician freestyling on the spot.

Nothing primes your ears for the sonic journey of London-based experimentalists Kinkajous’ forthcoming new album quite like this enticing three-track teaser. The Shifting Sands EP is a mini-introduction to the album, leaving you ravenous for more. If these three tracks are any indication, we’re stepping into a musical wonderland where innovation and experimentation know no bounds.
