Marysia Osu is a London-based harpist lauded as an innovative artist and celebrated for adding a whole new dimension to her instrument. A distinguished composer and performer, she combines multiple musical styles and aesthetics with expressive and dynamic music.

Originally from Radom, Poland, Osu’s passion for music sparked at a state-funded primary school that specialises in music, and here she began learning classical piano. Marysia stated that attending this school and indulging herself in mastering the piano was her favourite thing. After moving to London with her family at age 10, her mother enrolled her in Junior Trinity at Trinity Laban, a Saturday music school for young musicians. It was there that she was given a chance to change her instrument. Osu was intrigued by the harp’s expressive, technical qualities, beauty, and elegance.

Osu is notable for creating a unique fusion by combining classical techniques with modern sensibilities and blending traditional harp sounds with electronic elements. Through the classical tradition of Western music, she primarily expresses her inner world of feeling. The harp and piano also made her feel connected to feelings of sadness and introspection. On the harp, it was natural for her to express herself and reflect on her journeys through various experiences and emotions.

Marysia is an active member of the Levitation Orchestra as well as in other musical collectives, including Síbín, Sawa Manga, and Calabashed. She collaborated with poet and sound artist Ma. Moyo exploring themes of heritage, nature, and womanhood. Her forthcoming solo project, “harp, beats and dreams”, also combines ambient and electronic elements. This album is a celebration of her self-acceptance and the harmony she found within herself.

“This playlist consists of some of my favourite music that I had on repeat during the years I was composing ‘harp, beats & dreams’. Starting with a harp sonata recorded by my teacher, and moving through genres from ambient to dubstep, I found a lot of beauty in every one of these tracks. I hope you discover something new that you really love within this playlist too. Thank you Twistedsoul for this opportunity to share music.” – Marysia Osu
