Nordic jazz duo Svaneborg Kardyb is back with a brand new album, ‘Superkilen,’ released October 18th via Gondwana Records. The album is said to be the duo’s “most expansive and uplifting yet, nudging their trademark melodic minimalism into wider, more cinematic pastures.” The title track is streaming below.
Needing little introduction to the site’s regulars, Seventh Shadow of the Sun return with a new album of vibrational waves. Imagine sound art mingling at a jazz club, flirting with free jazz, and then improvisation crashes the partyโthis deeply experimental album is the result. Itโs like the musical equivalent of a midnight stroll through a surrealist painting, and itโs absolutely glorious. The Maryland outfit deliver in spades once again!
A massive shoutout to Hive Mind Records Marc Teare for introducing us to this fantastic album. “Marjaa…” blends Arabic blues with folk, ambient, and electronic sounds in a concept album that brings together Lebanese singer/songwriter Mayssa Jallad’s passions for music and urban research/architectural history. This wonderful album dropped early last year, so we might be fashionably late to the party, but better late than never, right?
Unknown to Known delivers an intimate mix of wandering melodies and textured grooves set against rich harmonic backdrops. This music is euphoric at times, dynamic throughout, and always interactive, genuine, and raw. Listen to their new EP, River Crossingโa 3-track improvised session that organically shaped into an album to be released later this year. River Crossing captures moments of unfiltered creativity, illustrating the raw beauty of music born in real-time. Explore the unpolished, unpredictable, and brilliant EP below.
Brainstory’s second album is a ear-wormy fusion of jazz, funk, and psychedelia and showcases the tightened bond between brothers Kevin and Tony Martin and close friend Eric Hagstrom, borne out by the natural musicality they share.
