“Rahoon” is an upcoming single by the Basel-based band LILAMORS. Scheduled for release this Friday, it is a reimagined version of a song (But Still, She Cries) from their debut album, transforming it from a melancholic folk lament into a lush, lyrical art-pop dream.
Those who follow the site will know that LILAMORS is a project of old friends consisting of vocalist Ana ÄŒop, pianist Thilo Seevers, and sound artist Jaka Arh. It is described as a rebirth, transformation, and continuation of “ACTS!”, a duo formed in 2019 by ÄŒop and Seevers. From the debut album, ‘When I Am Dead, My Dearest,’ LILAMORS has set about bridging the gap between sophistication and simplicity, futurism and tradition, urbanity and rurality.
“Rahoon” has a characteristic blend of acoustic and electronic elements in the sui generis style of LILAMORS and is a perfect example of the contemporary electro-acoustic genre with significant influences from jazz, indie pop and art pop. The juxtaposition of contrasting musical elements is at the core of LILAMORS’ each track. “Rahoon” is no different, evident from the opening with Ana’s other-worldly singing and fast arpeggiation on synth.
The traditional and modern element-infused instrumentation sets the song’s tone and allows ÄŒop’s vocals to flourish. The emotive and ethereal quality of her voice is central to the elegiac and bemoaning soundscape that this track portrays. Crystal-clear and poetic delivery of the lyrics paired with Arh’s sound design imparts a deep, atavistic and futuristic feel to the track.
The interplay between acoustic and electronic sounds, along with careful mixing and mastering by Arh and Patrik Zosso, ensures that each element of the track is balanced and enhances the overall aesthetic.
