Mahuki – Warrior Path (TS Premiere)

“Warrior Path” is the lead single from the upcoming debut album ‘Gratitude’ by Edinburg-based Mahuki.

Emerging from the capital of Scotland, Mahuki is spearheaded by Czech-born guitarist and composer Honza Kourimsky. With a decade’s worth of experience in music-making in Edinburgh, Honza has culled a repertoire of his own featuring some of the most prominent talents from Scotland’s jazz scene.

Mahuki performed a sold-out live recording session, leading to the acclaimed live projectLive from the Living Room Set.” This single and the debut album feature Mahuki’s unique blend of Eastern European folk and UK jazz fusion, featuring contributions from notable Scottish musicians, including members of Nimbus Sextet and renowned trumpet player James Brady. Their sound is a rich tapestry of influences, from the salsa melodies of Ezra Collective to the rock-edged grit of Kneebody, all underpinned by Honza’s soulful guitar work and storytelling prowess.

‘Warrior Path’ opens with a groovy drum intro and is soon joined by a clean intro riff on guitar. From the get-go, we can hear both folk and jazz elements playing in perfect tandem. After a brief chordal section, the trumpet enters the mix with a warrior-like anthemic tone; from right here, we get to witness what Mahuki is as a jazz fusion group.

Right in the middle, we have a dialogue-like section of drums and trumpets leading to the track’s final section. Each member of the group has demonstrated their ability and alacrity in blending their independent ideas, with the drums and trumpet taking the lead. This debut single is a testament to Mahuki’s collective talent and a preview of what they have in store for the future.

“As the first single of the album, ‘Warrior Path’ serves as a powerful introduction to the themes of resilience and gratefulness that resonate throughout ‘Gratitude’.
