WEMA is a one-of-a-kind five-piece collective with a passion for traditional Tanzanian melodies, Afro-Latin grooves and experimental electronic sound landscapes. The resulting sound is a true cultural melting pot. WEMA offers a colourful and varied musical kaleidoscope, which will excite and entice the audience with some unique vibes. What makes WEMA’s music special is the modern electronic component, which creates a flavorful contrast with the essential organic elements of the melodies and Afro-inspired rhythm segments in the music.
WEMA consists of Tanzanian multi-instrumentalist Msafiri Zawose, producer Photay and Penya members Magnus P.I, Lilli Elina and Jimmy le Messurier. They chose the name “Wema” for this musical collective because the name translates to kindness and generosity in Swahili: these two values are at the core of their artistic vision and the whole project!
This release is definitely going to be right up your alley if you enjoy groups such as Nu Genea, as well as Clap! Clap!, Conclave and Congotronics International.
