When Pepe. created his upcoming album, the world had been turned upside down by the pandemic. Creating music was his way of coping with reality, hence the album’s name. The album’s sound and compositions were enriched by bringing together a wealth of talent. In addition to Moo Latte and Kasia Siepka of Byty, Paulina Przybysz, Immortal Onion, Baasch and Wuja HZG contributed.
Combining his love for labels like Money Sex Records and Tartelet Records and citing Madlib, D’Angelo, Ras G, and Jai Paul as inspirations, his sophomore album sees him refusing to be pigeon-holed and not afraid to dabble in unfamiliar waters. Whether it is house, hip hop, or electronic, his music remains deftly unbound by any particular label.
This playlist explores the many soundscapes of his upcoming album featuring music by Aphex Twin, Al Dobson Jr, J Dilla, Steve Spacek and more.
The songs on the album are for me the way to escape from the pandemic and explore new musical areas. I just wanted to forget about all the laws, quarantines and restrictions. Imagination turned out to be the perfect cure for this.
