Pianist Christopher Parker reveals ‘Morning Ritual’, the lead track to be lifted from his forthcoming album Soul Food, set for release on October 29th via Mahakala Music. Listen to ‘Morning Ritual’ below.
As the press release explains, “Morning Ritual is daily process of awakening with the earth, the sun, the animals……while our mind and spirit transitions from a state of rest, they also must establish a state of balance, as free from anxiety, worry, and imbalance as possible. Brother William sets the tone for this with the shakuhachi, then the ensemble meditates on this feeling.”
The new song will be followed early next month by the epic LP opener ‘Guardian Angels’.
On the album, Parker enlists an array of master improvisers, including his wife Kelley Hurt (vocals), Daniel Carter (winds), Jaimie Branch (trumpet), William Parker (bass) and Gerald Cleaver (drums).
