Guest Mix: Scarlet Pines

Scarlet Pines is the creation of Canada-born, London-based composer and multi-instrumentalist, Pete Range.

The music of Scarlet Pines travels between the borderlines of modern jazz, psychedelic rock, soul and instrumental hip-hop all entwined expertly on their debut EP ‘A Life in Flow’, set for release this November.

A culmination of a year-long writing effort by Range in his home studio in Deptford the EP is an inventive and varied listen. In his songwriting, Range seeks to channel the expressive vigour of improvised jazz, but with a well-defined direction and emphasis on strong hooks, resulting in a sound that balances spontaneity and meticulousness.

Scarlet Pines are completed by Idris Rahman (tenor sax), Joe Perkins (guitar), / Flo Moore (bass), and Joel Barford (drums).

Ahead of next month’s release, the band has blessed us with a guest mix that delves deep into new jazz with tracks from Kamaal Williams, Alfa Mist, Mansur Brown, Amir Bresler, KOKOROKO and more. You also get to hear all three cuts that grace their upcoming EP.
