Los-Angels-based musical maverick Tommaso Cappellato has announced details of a new Astral Travel album.
If You Say You Are From This Planet, Why Do You Treat It Like You Do? will be out on 20th March via Hyperjazz Records.
Speaking about the record’s theme, he says it was: “Inspired by the poetry of Sun Ra inscribed within the pages of the book “This Planet Is Doomed”, the music and lyrics focus on the current consciousness of the planet, raising questions and issues of humanity’s collective spiritual direction.”
“A few poems were chosen and a few ideas were shared on the spot, but nothing was premeditated. More than four hours of material was recorded, then handed to producer Rabih Beaini who later shaped the improvisations into songforms.”
Astral Travel’s 6-member band includes Tommaso Cappellato (drums), Dwight Trible & Camilla Battaglia (vocals), Fabrizio Puglisi (piano/synth/Fender Rhodes), Piero Bittolo Bon (alto sax/bass clarinet/flutes/electronics), Marco Privato (double bass) with production from longtime collaborator Rabih Beaini.
The album is available on single black vinyl, 140g and includes the Sun Ra poems that inspired all the compositions of the LP.
