Gilles Peterson has launched a new label called Arc Records.
Selected from Peterson’s renowned basement archives the new imprint promises to shine a light on “magnificent records and the stories that brought them to us.”
The label will mark its first release early next year with a reissue of ‘Musica Infinita’ by Mexican drummer and composer Tino Contreras, originally released in 1978.
Speaking about his connection to the record, Peterson says, “This was the first record I heard from that region which had that amazing psychedelic, cosmic jazz sound. It’s somewhere between a David Axelrod record and a release on Saturn. I’ve always had it as one of my secret gems.”
On ‘Musica Infinita’, Contreras intricately fused strongly-felt Mexican tradition with American-influenced jazz to create an exciting fusion of psychedelic jazz.
