Rising Leeds-based nine-piece Necktr serves up a selection of deliciously soulful sounds for our latest guest mix.
Over the past few years their sweet fusion of hip-hop, Afrobeat, soul and ambient music has earned them critical underground status in their hometown’s blossoming groove scene.
As well as sharing the guest mix we’re also unveiling the bands’ new track ‘Cold Water’. With its uplifting horn lines, dazzling keys and a captivating performance by featured vocalist Esme Higgins it’s a wonderfully arranged track and one you’ll want to hear over and over. For their mix, Necktr has curated an ear-pleasing selection which kicks off with the warming falsetto of Cassiano and ends with the delicate twinkling keys by Ahmad Jamal. In between you’ll hear everything from Christy Essien Igbokwe, Weldon Irvine, Wendy Rene, Dorothy Ashby and Darondo, to name a few.
