In her latest EP, Los Angeles born Chilean American singer/songwriter, Gaby Hernandez, collaborates with two long time friends and colleagues: her sound engineer Benjamin Tierney, and her sometimes bass player Greg Malone.
An encomium to the ripeness of summer, “Open up” and “Cosmic Beach” luxuriate in the season’s unfolding into longer days and warmer evenings that slink along with ease and happiness, enticing lovers to to linger together a little longer. Malone, who played bass for the live shows of Hernandez’s album “Spirit Reflection,” provided original tracks that Hernandez married effortlessly with breezy lyrics that reflect the same easy energy and light heartedness as the pair’s friendship.
While “Open up” and “cosmic beach” transmit the concentrated warmth and energy of the sun, the strength and joy of an authentic love connection, “Leopard” pulls the listener into the dizzying post-sun stupor of the height of summer. Tierney’s beautiful soundscapes and rhythms provide the perfect frame for Hernandez’s dreamlike vision of intoxicating love. The lyrics and music come together like magic.
