After the last few years releasing top-notch music on such noted labels as 22a, CoOp Presents and Rhythm Section, French producer Neue Grafik, will drop a new EP Foulden Road’s on Total Refreshment Centre this September.
Inspired by an after-hours jam where Grafik was introduced to the TRC community, Lex Blondel (TRC founder) paired him up with Emma-Jean Thackray, to arrange his compositions for a quartet who include Dougal Taylor on drums, Matt Gedrych on bass and Jordan Saintard on sax. The album also features contributions from saxophonist Nubya Garcia, singer Allysha Joy and spoken word artist Brother Portrait.
“This mini album has been conceived as a journey from Deptford to Dalston, right through Peckham,” he explains. “During a personal period of transition, I put this music forward at a crossroad of all my influences, taking the time to share and experiment with a band – more than that, an ensemble.”
Before it drops on September 27th, take a ride with the record’s lead track Hedgehog’s Dilemma.
It features a shuffling groove with thunderous percussion complete with elegant sax and bass lines running over the top, which serves as the grand backdrop to the engaging voice and intriguing lyricism of Brother Portrait.
This track is simply magnificent!
